Duncan Scott - Independent for Flynn

"I'll earn your respect before I ask for your trust"

Why I'm Standing Again

I’m Duncan Scott, standing as an Independent for Flynn in the 2025 Australian Federal Election, I’m here to represent the voices that major parties ignore.

I want to thank the 112 voters who backed my nomination , and the 3,745 people who supported me last time.

Your trust means the world. I don’t take this lightly—this is about our community, our future.

I’ve nominated in every election since Flynn was created—not for fame or power, but because someone needs to stand up without the spin, without party lines, and speak for the people who actually live here.

Who I Am

I’m a 55-year-old farmer from Wowan . I’ve lived in a tin shed for 27 years. I took over the family dairy in 1987 and ran

Queensland’s smallest dairy until 2010—until a big international company decided we were too small for them.

I’ve also served 25 years in the Army Reserves as an infantryman, and I’m now in my 40th season of senior rugby union.

For seven years, I worked as a casual overseer, and more recently as a Senior Forest Ranger

—all while running the farm. That’s the reality for a lot of people in Flynn. You do what it takes to keep things going.

I’m not running for politics because it’s a step up—I’m running because I’ve already lived the tough steps.

My two children are now adults. I’ve lived through droughts, floods, hard years, and tough choices.

I know what it’s like to make ends meet, to fix something with what you’ve got, to push through when life knocks you down. That’s what gives me the drive to keep going.

Because I know I’m only as strong as my community.

What I Stand For

I’m anti-nuclear —full stop. Especially not a nuclear plant at Callide.

If Mr Dutton wants one, he can build it in his own backyard.

- We need to be open to investing in sustainable rural energy instead - new solutions are coming.

- Stronger support for small business and agriculture

- More transparency and accountability in Parliament

- Defence that protects our people, not just our headlines

I don’t take money from anyone. I don’t run flashy campaigns.

No billboards. No junk mail. No donations.

That money is better off supporting the homeless, helping veterans, backing drought-hit farms, or supporting families grieving from suicide.

I’ve always stood on my own two feet, and I always will.

The Big Issues No One Talks About

I’m not interested in $10 billion promises spread out over 10 years that never happen.

There are federal issues that impact us locally—from national funding decisions to biosecurity and road infrastructure planning. I’ll push for Flynn to get its fair share.”

I care about what’s hurting us now:

- Loss of basic services in our small towns

- The threat of fire ants, feral pigs, and invasive weeds

- Wasted money on roads that should’ve been done right the first time

- A system where good people get buried under bad decisions

I resign from my job as a Senior Forest Ranger each election so I can stand for the election. Being a Senior Forest Ranger takes me to many areas across Flynn. I see firsthand how slow and painful government can be.

I know where the gaps are—and where we can do better.

My Promises to You

  • - If I get 4% of the primary vote, I’ll donate the $10,000 candidate payment to the Capricorn Rescue Helicopter Service.

  • - If I’m elected, I’ll donate half of my take-home wage to them too. The other half is more than I’ve earned before—and enough for me.

  • - If Australia goes to war and I’m in Parliament, I will resign and re-enlist. I’d rather go with my life experience than send someone else’s kid who’s never had the chance to live.

Let’s Keep It Simple and Real

I won’t make promises I can’t keep.

I’ll listen, I’ll work with your councillors , and I’ll travel to every part of Flynn with a mobile office.

If I can’t solve your problem, I’ll do everything I can to find someone who can.

I’m not perfect. I’ll make mistakes.

But I’ll show up. I’ll have a go.

And I’ll speak for you, not a party.

I may not have party backing, but I’ll be a clear, grounded voice in Canberra—asking the questions they don’t want to answer, and making sure Flynn isn’t forgotten.

Your Voice Matters

If anything I’ve said here has struck a chord, please—make your vote count and help spread the word.

Because this election isn’t just about parties—it’s about people.

Talk to your neighbour, share this message, and come along to the meet and greets happening across Flynn.

Whether you vote for me or not, your voice is powerful. And together, we shape our community.

Because while big business might get the headlines, it’s family farms and small businesses that are the heart of Australia.
